Starter solenoid question?

My son has a 70cc pocket bike X-7 and the electric starter does nothing. I have tested the battery and has 12v and press the start button and nothing happens, no noise, nothing. The tension did not move with the battery? Also, when you turn the key on nothing works, lights, horn, siganals time, nothing. But I checked the inline fuse, and it is good? There is 12v battery to the solenoid, but 0v on the other end of solenoid. Not sure what to do to test solenoid or any other component of the electric starting system? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

A solenoid is only one type of relay. An electrical relay has two parts to it, totally isolated from each other. There is of course relay electrical contacts acting as a switch to connect two wires together and complete a circuit for example. In the case of a solenoid on a starter, which are high current (amperage) contacts can lead to large current drawn by the starter when the engine cranks. So first make sure you have a good battery with a wire attached to good high current (large bolt copper connections) in the solenoid. Second, each relay is an electromagnetic coil control that is what pulls the magnetic switch contacts together when the switch connects the control winding to the battery. So when you turn the key tension is due in the solenoid connections to control the clearance of the solenoid switch and start the engine.
