Suzuki Equator 2009: Works to play
Does it make sense to bring to market a new truck when truck sales by all manufacturers have dropped? Suzuki says yes. If the "active lifestyle" owners of Suzuki adult toys is to be transported in or behind a van, could well be a Suzuki. It makes sense, but the design and engineering of a new vehicle consumes three to five years and huge resources, and is incredibly expensive. That's why Suzuki decided to market a slightly modified version of a midsize truck Nissan Frontier as your own. Even if their sales are modest, it is a win-win According to both companies.
Suzuki says that this new Ecuador, developed as a joint effort with Nissan North America, and the name "4×4 of the Year by 4-Wheel & Off-Road magazine offers a well rounded blend of comfort, style, utility and off-road capability, and we can not discuss. It is available for 2009 in Extended and Crew Cab, short-and long-bed and the rear or four-wheel drive (4WD) variations. Beyond that, few alternatives are now gathering low fuel consumption compact or midsize business, very competitive and this new line of Suzuki Equator offers another set of choices.
A set of unique design elements Suzuki-including hood, front fenders, grille, bumpers, front fascia and rear-Ecuador differentiate their cousins Nissan Frontier. Extended Cab and Crew Cab models offer a provision of "high utility" bed with a spray-on bedliner and an intelligent system tools tie with adjustable track. Of course, the wide range of accessories available include specialized components to ensure the bed and transporting a motorcycle or ATV a relatively simple task.
The Little Spartan Interior strives for a balance between the role of trucks and comfort of the car. Extended Cab and Crew Cab has a folding front passenger seat flat and flip-up rear seats with removable storage boxes underneath. Standard engine is a DOHC 2.5-liter four good for 152 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque, while an optional 4.0-liter DOHC aluminum block V-6 ups the ante to a more robust 261 horsepower and 281 lb-ft Transmission options are a manual five-speed automatic (standard with the only four-cylinder) or a five-speed electronically-controlled, available with or without changes on the fly 4WD with an electronically controlled part-time two-speed transfer. Available for service is a complete off-road four-wheel traction control active limited slip, a rear electronic differential lock, Vehicle Dynamic Control, Hill Descent Control and Hill Hold.

The front suspension is double steel wishbones, and the solid rear axle uses leaf springs overslung long haul. Available wheel / tire packages include "tough-Trail" P265/75R16s on off-road style wheels-16-inches and the "long way" P265/65R17s on 17-inch wheels. Maximum towing capacity is 6500 pounds with 2WD V-6 package Sport.

The line of Ecuador Crew Cab offers three trim levels, all thanks to the V-6 with five-speed automatic. The base is Crew Cab 2WD, while the Sport offers a choice of 2WD or 4WD. A RMZ-4 (A well known name in Suzuki dirt bikes) model comes with Dana 44 axles, electric locking rear differential, Bilstein high-performance plates slip and BFGoodrich Rugged Trail tires P265/75R16. It also has fog lights, chrome mirrors and door handles, bed extender (the best to accommodate motorcycles), special material RMZ-4 seats with red stitching, chrome instrument cluster and vent trim, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
On the security front, all equators come with front air bags with dual-stage front sensors and seat belt occupant classification front-seat airbags and side curtain bags front and rear, plus a tire pressure monitoring system. Extended Cab and Crew Cab models offer three-point belts for all rear seat occupants, including center position.
