Is the need for a utility trailer springs?

I just got a 5×8 utility trailer to transport my mower and ATV. Manufacturing is home and very well built and has 215/70R14 car tires / wheels but do not have springs on the shaft. Is there any benefit to having springs on a trailer? I have a lot of mechanical and welding experience so adding it would not be problem. Just do not want to change anything if necessary.

Add the docks. It will shoot better, the tires wear out a little better, and when it is loaded and you hit a large bump / pothole you will be less likely to bend the shaft.
