Atv Winch wiring?

I have a atv winch for the snow plow that mounts to the front of the atv. there are two things I am not sure about. There is a soloinod that all the wires go in and out to which they say to mount in a atv box like where you store things. The box is plastic. Does the solonoid have to be grounded to the frame? Second, the switch for the in and out goes to the solonoid which has a third red wire. They say this wire should go to the keyed ignition so it only turns on with the key on. Do you need to hook that red wire up to work? I cant seem to get the winch working.

Any ideas
If it needs to be wired with red wire could i splice the wire right at the key. Meaning the black and red wires coming from the key, could i splice the red wire right there?

Yes, the solenoid needs to be grounded and the red wire does need to be hooked to the key switch for primary side power on the solenoid… The instructions should be very explicit about this but sometimes they are very vague. You might try to contact the manufacturer by phone or by the Internet for advise…
