Build Your Own Dune Buggy. It is not difficult, (or is)?
You've seen some dune buggies on the beach lately, and you have decided that owning and driving a dune buggy looks great. So you want to build a buggy because you are good with their hands and want to save some money.
Before doing anything, however, you need to know where you want to be driving your buggy, and what needs to be done. Basically there are 3 places that buggies are driven, and each requires a different build.
First is the road. Yes you can drive a buggy on the road. But of course, must be street legal and does not need many things other dune buggies can take, such as 4 wheel drive.
There are some very good buggies street legal fiberglass looking great, and these are usually based on a vw frame and body and built from there.
Then there's the classic place for dune buggies, dunes. Driving in sand is probably the most fun you can have in a buggy, but you need a stroller with specific characteristics. For example very clear, with good power / weight. Huge tires of sand in the rear, and small smooth tires on the front. Front brakes is not necessary, but good quality rear brakes.
Then there off-road car designed for the land. Perhaps steep hills, mud and trails. They need a stronger structure and roll cage for a reversal may be more severe, (Ie, hitting a tree, for example), the tires are different, the front brakes are much more important, and the frame has to be stronger. The driving surface will be more rugged and will require better suspension, a longer route and mud and dirt tires.
So if you are intending to build your own buggy, then you need to meet your exact needs first. Frame, engine, tires, suspension, brakes, roll cage, the body, if desired.
That's hard to build your own buggy? Well of course it all depends on your skill level. If You've spent your whole life repairing cars, car restoration and rebuilding cars, for example, then you could be in a good position to build their own buggy. However, if you have not done much work on the cars before then yes, build a buggy is not easy. Has skills, it takes money and takes time, and be prepared for many hours of frustration.
My first recommendation if you are thinking about building their own buggy for the first time? Buy a kit buggy or at least some high quality dune buggy plans to work. Now a team does not offer everything you need. You will need to provide your own engine, for example, but it does to offer some of the basics that are difficult to build yourself. For example, if you're wanting a buggy figerglass the fiberglass body is not easy to make at home, so you can get a kit with a good body and has been presented.
But my number one recommendation if you're thinking of building of his own buggy for the first time? Do not. Not unless you are very confident in his own abilities. It is not easy and usually takes way longer than I imagined I could, and costs more, and while you slave in the garage trying to build your buggy around the world in the dunes are cut up.
There are great places where you can find yourself an ideal stroller for sale (or even a good buggy kit) to a very good price. Usually much cheaper than you could build one for yourself.
So Grab yourself a second hand buggy, learn everything you can first learn everything about building a buggy himself and, if you really want, build your buggy second time you know what you're in for. At least you have your first not to drive when you get tired of the construction.
