How I can test the lead paint?
My husband recently bought a 1971 VW Bug car, which has become a buggy class. It was converted in a buggy and the frame was painted by someone else between 1983 and 1996. I realize that these years are after the dates occurred when used in house paint, but I have no idea what the owner used to paint the metal with this car. I wonder how I can prove that lead paint before sanding down the frame. I am concerned because my children are young people around when my husband sanded the car and helping him. Besides, my husband could breathe a little paint dust from sanding. Is there test equipment that I can get easily?
You can buy test kits for lead in paint local hardware store for about $ 12. There are possibilities that there would still be even if the new paint contains lead, since it would be difficult to have removed all the old paint from 1971 that probably had lead.
