My take on a moped for your purposes is that it does not. I am not suggesting a big bike by any means, but to do what I want, I'd be thinking about a scooter, perhaps in the range 125 (depends somewhat on the speed of traffic on their usual routes, traffic, etc..) I am a long corridor, and probably one of the things I installed many years ago, it was a moped. Why? Too slow to exit the way of traffic and fast to be easily mounted on the shoulder or attached to the side of the road style bike. For a trip of 15 miles in each direction in traffic, an electric is not even a consideration in my opinion. Security? Like any two-wheeled: mess with anything with four or more wheels and llkely lose that contest. Miles? My father has a Yamaha Vino 125 and aims to improve the 100 mpg. Depends – use your best judgment. You should be able to pick up a bike or small bike that someone bought and decided they wanted something faster or bigger and negotiated a good discount. Quick Edit: a moped in most states can not exceed 50 cc and most are capable of speeds at ground level about 30 miles per hour (not 55 like the other poster suggested). A moped has, pedals, and often used for starting, and a little extra power going up hills, etc.
