What is the law behing riding an electric scooter motorized downtown Chicago? – Www.goped.com – ESR750EX?
I already called the local office of DMV legal advice, and the Office of Transportation. They do not really know what is the answer.
Of course not ………………… If you can not be the license is illegal in Cook County, which includes Chicago. Section 82-4. Motor scooters. (A motor scooter) is defined. For the purposes of this section, a motor scooter "motor" is defined as any gas or electric wheel scooter, bicycle or vehicle for which the State of Illinois does not issue a document of title, and does not issue license plates or registration documents. (B) Operation of motorized scooters restricted. No person shall operate a motor scooter driven on any public street, sidewalk, parking, bike path, park or any public property. (C) Exemptions. Shall be exempt from the prohibitions contained in this section: (1) Any police vehicle, fire fighting vehicles, municipal vehicles, special purpose vehicle in the district, county vehicles or Forest Preserve District vehicle driven by an employee in the course of their duties. (2) motorized wheelchairs. For purposes of this section, a motorized wheelchair means any motorized vehicle designed and used by a disabled person. (3) Electric personal devices to assist mobility, as defined in Section 5/1-117.7 Vehicle Code Illinois (625 ILCS 5-1-100 et seq.). (D) Applicability of section. Without limitation, this section applies to the unincorporated areas of Cook County, areas owned or operated by Special Districts in unincorporated Cook County, and areas of the municipalities within the County that have not adopted ordinances governing operation of motorized scooters within these municipalities. To the extent a municipality has adopted an ordinance dealing with the operation of motorized scooters or to the extent a municipality adopts an ordinance that the choice not to make bythis section, the municipal ordinance shall apply, and this section shall not apply, to any area within the jurisdiction of the municipality. (E) Violations. Anyone 18 years of age or older who violates any provision of this section shall be subject to a fine of not less than $ 200.00 nor more than $ 1,000.00 for each violation. A crime committed by a minor under the direct control or with the consent of a parent or guardian may submit to the parent or guardian to the penalties provided in this section. (Ord.
