My wife enjoys the outdoors, but can only withstand the sand and earth for a few days. After grinding (in VR:), she needs a nice and a bit of luxury. So when she has had enough and, after many great wilderness adventures, we have used Las Vegas as a place rest and cleaning. Within an hour's drive from Las Vegas there are many places to go fishing, boating, camping, flying, and horseback riding west. The desert is also the dream of a photographer who changes shapes and colors to each area and time of day. Sometimes, after a little rest, we return to the wilderness for another adventure.
If you are back East or another country, you should know that even though the desert is still a beautiful wilderness and you need to know where to go with a good map and have a plenty of water and make sure your rental car has a spare and full of gas. Get a good GPS device and the practice thereof. We used our to find the things we saw on a map.
My wife always ready to offer flights and hotel reservations in advance. Once everything came from the river dirty and so hungry, we headed straight to the buffet line. They were nice to us and does not seem to realize how dirty we were.
Only an hour or so away is the Valley of Fire State Park. It is fifty miles north and has been described as impressive. The best season for camping or hiking by sandy tracks are spring and fall. They also have picnic tables with shade.
If you are interested in off-road adventures (if they do not anyway) to contact a company called off road adventure guide in Logandale Nevada. They have a website that provides a guide for Off Road and ATV Adventure information on rents and the circuits in the system Logandale road near the Valley of Fire. Then there is the Dunes Recreation Area in Las Vegas for a rate slightly different from ATV riding in the dunes of soft sand. Take special tires on the ATV and it is this area is very funny.
Red Rock Canyon is a beautiful desert state parks that you can not lose. It is only half hour away and is beautiful with many types of excursions and hiking. It has a nice visitor center surrounded desert hills and beautiful canyons to hike and explore.
Most people know about Hoover Dam and Lake Mead, but are not aware of many camps and marinas in the area. It's called the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, and the huge lake offers a lot of things to do and places to visit. The Mojave, the Great Basin and Sonoran deserts come together in this area and this is how the next day meets night or in the desert meets the forest. This side of things is makes great beauty and great photography.
There are all kinds of great trips for everyone. They have a variety of helicopters, planes and bus trips to the Great Canyon rafting adventure on the Colorado River. It is not a luxury tour van and even a visit to the Grand Canyon in a Hummer. Not the Grand Canyon by helicopter Tour and Ranch Adventure Tour helicopter that lands on a working ranch in the canyon and you're served a great lunch there.
A cowboy riding horse at home can include lunch on the road or a barbecue at the end. The tour people still take you there and pick the perfect horse for you, no experience necessary. There's nothing like a dinner on an open fire. After writing this, I have to go back because it is really fun. Be sure to look the gift packs in your hotel room for discounts and travel guides.
If you have the time and do not mind the drive and all kinds of adventures are open to you. Within a three-hour drive is Zion National Park and have everything there, including hotels. If you are an artist or photographer then you should go.
If Zion is a bit too far for now then try the Southern California called "the river." What they mean is the Colorado River at Lake Mohave. Lake Mohave Resort at Katherine Landing Lake Mohave is located within Lake Mead National Recreation Area, and offers year-round recreation for Nevada, Arizona and southern California.
Boats and jet skis can be rented at Katherine Landing. Public campsites are available in both places provide tents and camping trailer, RV connections and restaurants, accommodation, port facilities, boats and fishing equipment and fishing licenses.
So did I miss something? Oh yeah, me I lost a lot, as the secret item that only my wife knows where they buried the gold, but you get the idea. Oh, and some interesting places where they filmed some movies famous. There are many adventures for you and your family waiting by the lights of Las Vegas.
PS Did you know that the Indians are building a glass bridge over the Grand Canyon?
