Blackpool: more than the beach vacation

Blackpool is a popular seaside resort in northwest England on the Fylde coast of Lancashire. The city was named after a drainage channel which ran over a peat bog into the sea of Blackpool, the water, forming a group of "black" in the Irish Sea. The city became an independent unitary authority in 1998, and is the most visited tourist destination in England after London.

Blackpool is now a population of more than 153 500, with several ethnic groups comprising of English, Ireland, Wales, Ulster, West Indian, Indian, Pakistani, and others.

Blackpool is linked by the M55 motorway to the national motorway network. Blackpool Airport is just 2 ½ miles (4 km) from the center of the city, serving scheduled and charter flights. Another small airport serves commercial flights from the Isle of Man, Belfast and Dublin. The city has three train stations – North, South and Pleasure Beach. Still survive a popular means of public transport in Blackpool is the tram. By bus, the area is served by two major bus companies Arriva North West buses, and timeliness, frequent buses on local routes.

Famous for being "Britain's undisputed capital of entertainment" Blackpool has a large number of discos, pubs, entertainment venues and restaurants to suit every taste and every budget in every area of the city. The city has more than 30 clubs and nightclubs, a cinema complex, four theaters, and three springs, located mostly in and around the downtown. Blackpool is also the second largest shopping center in Lancashire, and Hounds Hill, the only indoor shopping center is located in the center of the city beside the Blackpool Tower.

Some of the Popular tourist attractions include Blackpool Blackpool Zoo, home to over 1,500 animals from around the world, Blackpool Pleasure Beach, a theme park that offers the highest roller coaster in Europe, winter gardens, leisure and conference venue, Louis Tussaud's Wax, wax models of celebrities, musicians, personalities sports and the famous Chamber of Horrors, and World Tower, a huge complex of leisure facilities, entertainment venues and restaurants. World Tower include Blackpool Tower and Circus, which is supposed to be the best circus in Britain, with ballroom dancing and an aquarium, and the Tower Ballroom, a ballroom and theater famous elaborately decorated for its Mighty Wurlitzer organ.

Also there are several events and festivals in Blackpool as Blackpool Dance Festival, annual competition ballroom dancing, which is world-famous Great Hall Promenade, with a series of works art along South Promenade, with Blackpool High Tide Organ, Blackpool International Hair and Beauty Festival, a hairdresser Championships two days, total transport, considered one of the largest festivals in northwest classic transport, vintage bus, cars, buses, commercial vehicles, motorcycles and trams, Blackpool Lions Carnival, a carnival parade impressive over 1000 people, floats, vehicles, bands and dancers, Blackpool 10 km Walk Fun Run, a 10km fun run along Blackpool promenade for professional and amateur runners the help of local charities and Blackpool Illuminations / Festival of Light, the presentation of six miles of shining laser lights, and LED technology.
