A Camera that’s Pocket Friendly
The new Flip Mino HD is a delight for those who have enjoyed its predecessors. Although there is no tremendous difference between them; yet certain features of the new version makes it smarter than the earlier ones.
This new pocket camera looks almost 1.5 inches slimmer than the previous model. It is stunning to look at, thanks to its metal body. Further, the new model is more comfortable to hold even with one hand because of the soft rounded edges. This is a refreshing change from the sharp-edged plastic body of the earlier models.
The bigger and sharper new screen is 2 inches wide and has a video resolution of 1280 x 720. However, the best feature of the new Mino HD is its internal memory capacity. The memory capacity is now 8 GB, which is precisely twice that of the previous models. Further, the new model allows you to continuously watch videos for two hours instead of the earlier limit of 60 minutes. After the acquisition of Flip by Cisco, almost everything has been tweaked. The improved features of the camera are surely a sign of the same. The processor speed has been enhanced too.
You can now even share your videos because of the HDMI port, a new feature of this model. Although this port was there in the earlier models, it was covered with an ugly-looking cap. However, in the new model, you can open and close this cover using a small switch. Smart, indeed. The sad part is that the new model does not come with a HDMI cable. You need to buy the cable separately.
However, some features are exactly the same as they were in the older models. Features such as the extremely sensitive touch pads, which are activated even by an accidental touch, the lens, and the sensor have remained the same. They are really annoying features. The sensor is good for close up shots that are taken under perfect lighting conditions. However, under low-light conditions, the results are hazy. Further, stills cannot be taken as the camera does not have the optical zoom feature.
The new Flip Mino HD is undoubtedly one of the simplest easy-to-use cameras available for recording videos. And even the price does not burn your pocket. Although the Kodak models are better, the Flip gives them fair competition. However, in order to survive the intense competition provided by smart phones and ipod nano, both of which are known for their excellent performance, the Flip has to get rid of its flaws soon.
