Fuel efficiency is dead and buried

As a marketing weapon, that is.
Yields 102kpl TVS Star, the hero Honda Splendor – last time I checked – returns 85 kilometers to a liter of fuel, the Bajaj CT 100 is a bike 101kpl.

Borrowing a phrase from The Cranberries Ode to my family, "anyone care?
I remember the 1980s – the era of the mopeds. For most people in the 1980s, the moped was representative of two-wheeled freedom – once they were more popular than scooters and miles ahead of motorcycles. Now only a small fraction Motorcycle sales in general.

What went wrong?
I feel the obsession with mileage more people could. Mopeds claimed some outrageous figures for resistance – the Hero Puch 91kpl, 93kpl Powerking 108kpl Atlas and someone figures were adorned newspaper advertisements.

What went wrong?
The Puch sold well – not because of its claim for 91 kilometers to a liter, but because it was fashionable and cool and a school / College going daughter being seen in public over it and still has his reputation intact.

The Mofa not – was too rudimentary, and not uncool thrust was worthless.

He did not realize that he alleged 122kilometres one liter.

And when the time came when people could get a Hero Honda CD 100 – which seemed to generations ahead of any moped (and was) – that quickly changed allegiances.

The life of mopeds has gone downhill since then.
Motorcycles have been more fortunate, the people behind them wiser and more evolved market. Thus, while mentions a 102kpl Star Sports, it's more of a passing mention. Not screaming over the rooftops with a megaphone. The Platina, so does nothing more than a mention transient fuel efficiency.

The buzzwords now are marketing is the lifestyle and convenience.

Bajaj Platina Ad go ga-ga over looks – the looks of a bike that is essentially bottom rung of the ladder convenience!

How cool is that!
O Star Sports TV ad showing a girl finally consented backseat ride with a guy, just because now owns a Star Sports. Again, the Star Sports Platina rubs shoulders with the market.

No wonder the girl is TVS Tab!
Surprisingly, the highest jet steps as Karizma, Pulsar and Apache did not hear about convenience. Look at the recent announcements – the Pulsar is about being wild and free, the Apache is about being …. ummm …. wild and free Karizma and about being ahead of the rest.

Turning to the reason why I started writing this post – fuel efficiency as a tool of marketing seems be dead. Perhaps, as manufacturers realize the launch of a new variant or the product every two months and screaming about fuel efficiency, only to the opponent can better within a month, it was a very good idea. Remember it was only some time ago that we had the joy Hero Honda, Bajaj Caliber, Boxer (and its variants 100), size 115 and TVS Centra all toys on the market. Some of them are dead, some in support of a respirator.

The brands are being built, stronger, and around numerous other virtues, in addition to fuel efficiency. And manufacturers now want long-term brands.

Bajaj, which must be holding a sad record of "more dead" brands of two-wheelers in India, is now focused on the current crop. So the Press (Flagship, in four engine sizes 150cc-220cc) remains to Rahul Bajaj grandchildren started running BAL. The sites will be built on and will have three engines to choose (110cc – 135cc) and Platina, will be around until Bajaj can extract maximum performance from your existing platform 100cc.

Hero Honda also want to leverage their strong brands. The Karizma will (more likely to become Charisms Xtreme), the CBZ Xtreme continue, the winner going to die (at this time alive), Glamour can live (It takes hard work), the splendor live (obviously!), the Dawn is going to die and the entry-level battle will be fought with CD 100 Deluxe.
