All the fun of the Pharaohs
There are a few types of travel commonly associated with Egypt, Nile cruises, all things old and expensive to do nothing "interruptions in the Red Sea.
Not many people the option of combining the previous three, but I'm not many people. I am a man. A man happened to go on a break several stops around the longest holiday destinations established.
When I say "oldest", which I'm serious. The Romans were known to have made the pilgrimage to Cairo to marvel at the Pyramids of Giza during the height of his empire – some 2000 years ago. It quite easy to imagine the Romans travel weary now protected from the sun after their arduous overland journey thousands of miles.
Took a grand total four hours for me to get to Cairo, then another hour to get to my hotel, who happen to have a view that was not half bad. The three pyramids lined up neatly outside my balcony. No sand cleats for me then.
This does not mean that Cairo is luxury. How to travel can be a chore, especially considering that the population of the city of 17 million has to move with an infrastructure designed for just five million. So you're heading to the Pyramids, leave early is a necessity.
The Pyramids and the Sphinx need no introduction. They are huge and impressive and I can say I've been there and done that, but unfortunately could not find the seller of the shirt.
When finished with the large and impressive things, escape the heat by entering a mosque during a five hours daily prayer. Sit quietly in the cool of the building and see the prayers take place. It was as much a religious experience as an escapist one considering the chaos outside.
But after a few days in Cairo was a great relief to be able to drop everything and head somewhere a little quieter. The next stop, in Luxor.
Luxor is the Egyptian museum and home of the cruise on the Nile Valley of the Kings lies nearby, as is the Temple of Hatshepsut, the Colossi of Memnon, and Karnak temples Luxor.
My home for a lonely night was exquisite Moon Goddess Sonesta appointed boat, anchored in the center of the city on the east bank of the Nile all the amenities were aboard a gym and pool, and the staff was efficient and charming.
With sadness there was insufficient time for travel to anywhere in the river, but gave me a chance to see the Luxor Museum (very small but with some wonderful exhibits) and the Temple of Luxor – a place that encapsulates the country's heritage even more the pyramids mentioned too.
If you fancy learning about Egypt's history in more depth, visit the Luxor Heritage Centre CULTNAT is an idea – you can watch the video overview of the rites and rituals of ancient Egypt and really make a thorough investigation in his extensive library.
Soon my time in Luxor had ended. He was still pondering what he would do on my return visit when the plane was going to take me to Sharm el Sheikh appeared sight. I'm not terribly impressed.

What amounted a metal tube with four desk fans attached to the side I was supposed to transport and another 30 miles through 250-odd desert, mountains and shark-infested waters of the town of Sharm el Sheikh.
I was convinced I was doomed. A brief conversation with one of my fellow travelers (a seven-foot German named Roland) ran something like this:
Roland: Do not worry, planes propeller are very safe.
Me: Please explain
Roland Well, although the three pillars may continue in a single motor
Me: Oh god.
One nervous hours later, and to my surprise, it landed in Sharm with four engines spinning merrily away. I was rushed to my accommodation – One very nice resort hotels and very large, totally lacking in charm overlooking the beach.
Sharm is considered a diver's paradise, and it really is. Only swim a few meters from the beach and away from any rocks I saw a turquoise fish meters long, wide open water that was perfectly happy to let me share their step for a minute or two. It's a shame that nobody warned me about the dangers of what lurks in the water …
The problem was not what would happen if a fish gave a bite out of me, but rather the consequences of me taking a bite of a fish. Before he traveled to Egypt people warned me about food and drink. No ice, do not drink tap water and do not eat salad were the top three concerns.
It would have been of great help if someone had added – not to eat seafood. But they did not. So I found myself enjoying the latest fad diet I have called "the calorie counter Cairo. This diet consists of fish meal, followed by sitting on the toilet for two days and have nothing but water and fruit juices. I lost the best part of a stone – that really works!
Other than experience outlined above – it was my fault more than anything, I have nothing but praise for the food in Egypt. Delicious spicy kebabs and cakes, sauces and incredible Traditional desserts are offered sweet and sticky – and you can eat ridiculously cheap.
I had lunch at Abou El Sid in Zamalek of Cairo, where they hold about 10 pounds per plate Egyptain (around 80p) and the network are 20-40 Egyptian pounds (£ 2 – £ 4).
My last morning was spent in Egypt on a quad safari in the desert to see the sun rise over the mountains of the Sinai Peninsula.
The journey started a 3:45 a.m.. He was accompanied by four smoking one cigarette after the Russians did nothing but talk about Formula One, not to put me completely at ease to do more than 40 mph burning undulating sand and jagged rocks. However, the bike was surprisingly easy to master and soon squeeze through the dunes with a huge smile under my scarf Arabic.
We pulled a U-shaped wall of the mountain at the back and waited in silence for a while. The Russians lit their cigarettes and I pushed record on my handycam. Above moderate our chat, which were affected by a growing wave of intense heat as the sun of the Middle East rose in the distance. It was the highlight of my trip and certainly worth punishment wicked start early.
Then jumped back in the saddle for a tea break, Bedouin style. Small glasses of tea four sugars in each one the many things that give me the energy to my trip back to the UK.
