Our family just love it, travel in South Africa is easy for us who live here. From our base in East London, Eastern Cape, we have a short hop through Port Alfred and Port Elizabeth road. The beginning (or end) of the Garden Route, depends on how you're coming from. For this article we travel will take you from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth and try to give new visitors to the area an idea of this beautiful part of southern Africa.

Many LOCAL RATE this region of the Western Cape and Cape Oriental, one of the most beautiful in South Africa. There are some arguments as to where perhaps the current Garden Route begins and ends as many say started the Garden Route as one leaves Cape Town and ends in Port Elizabeth to enter, while this may be true, the real Garden Route, the most beautiful anyway, part of the city Mossel Bay and ends in Port Elizabeth.

We take you through the route from Cape Town as you are driving through. The road winds along N1 is excellent as the National Road, you will not see much of the sea until you start the downhill section towards the town of Mossel Bay, past the oil refinery Sasol, approximately four to five hours easy drive from Cape Town. Mossel Bay can be described as a small fishing village, but historic, built on the edge a beautiful bay. Mossel Bay is being re-discoverred and has reinvented itself as a tourist destination. Recently completed additions include Casino complex, the Pinnacle Point Golf Estate, many apartments and residential housing options throughout Diaz Strand and recently updated Mossel Bay Golf Club. One can by-pass Mossel Bay on the N2 or take easy diversion through the city. This deviation can be extended for the holiday villages Groot Brak and Klein Brak River, the popular holiday resorts with many rental houses, occupied during the holiday season.

Not far along the road that will bypass the George Airport, serviced by SA Express Airlines and George Town and the huge shopping center Garden Route, recently built, and confirming the role of George as the commercial center of the Garden Route. With the passage that George could take a right turn, a charming little bay, also a popular spot Surf, known as Victoria Bay and commonly known as Vic Bay in the town, take a break and walk down the road in front of the houses, the writer was once lucky to see a cormorant (seabird SA), deep sea fishing in a pool of clear water Chrystal. Just after the Vic Bay, some adjusted turns, a beautiful section through the Kaaimans Pass. Take it easy and watch out for speed limits on curves and will open over the Dolphins Point, a great place for a stop light, look out for schools of dolphins, but if you do not see any, enjoy the view of the Kaaimans River Mouth and Indian Ocean and coastal wildlife.

Desert village began as a small town along one of the many rivers that connect a series of lakes surrounding the area city and the Desert National Park, a nature reserve where waterfowl are abundant. Silvestre has since been extended to residential developments and housing between the N2 and the coast. For a little peace and quiet, especially if you like bird watching, walking or mountain biking, the desert is a wonderful place to consider spending a night or two if they are touring or even longer for a family holiday. It is a good location with easy access to the rest of the Garden Route, you can access day trips shorter.

Leaving the desert area, they still feel part of the Lake District as you travel the route short, perhaps half an hour, towards the town of Sedgefield.
