Summer Camping Opportunities in national forests – Sno-Parks
While traveling in the high country this summer writing my blog Travel ( Oregon to Florida) I discovered a wonderful camping experience; U.S. National Forest Sno-Parks. These parks used in winter and winter sports areas, but are ignored in the summer months. These Sno-Parks make a great summer retreat.
As a bonus of Use Sno-Park in the summer is FREE. In winter, a parking permit is required to use the parks. This minimum fee is used to pay for snow removal and other costs. The Camping in summer has its price, the services are minimal. As a rule "Pack It In – Pack It Out" is the standard for most of Sno-Parks.
Facilities and activities vary from park to park and most are suitable for family camping. In fact, many barracks Sno-Parks have been heating with wood stoves, tables and chairs and some with electrical connection for portable generators. These fully equipped parks are great for group gatherings and parties. You can not stay warm cabins.
Sno-Parks are maintained by the USFS and are well maintained and clean. The services vary Forest District. Please contact the district ranger station for details before leaving home. Some parks are areas of staging and adequate winter not for family camping. All parks have toilet facilities.
Sno-Parks are designed and located for fans of winter sports. bikes snow riders are predominantly users of snowmobiles and the trails are abundant. Cross-country skiing and dog sledding trails can be found in some areas. Most parks offer maps of these trails can be hiked in the summer months. Please contact the district ranger station for information map.
In the summer activities are generally minimal, with hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and ATV is the primary activity. As all these activities are not allowed in all areas, check with the district ranger station before leaving home. Water sports are rare and usually require travel. Remember that there is high usage camps, which are underused FREE Sno-Park summer camping opportunities.
