Second Hand Motorbikes Brisbane
a girl with motorbike questions!?
hi all, im a 25 yr old female from brisbane who just loves motorbikes! i dont know all the ins and outs of the mechanics etc but i love them and ive always desperately wanted one! i think im attracted to a feeling of freedom you can get from riding one.
anyway, i almost have enough to get a decent second hand bike, just wondering what type to get as in make, model etc.. i guy i spoke to said a naked sportsbike 250 cc or maybe 600cc. im pretty tall so perhaps i can handle a 600..im slender tho if it fell over on me i probably couldnt get it off! what is a good bike to get for a girl that also has some “cred” as a cool bike? (i know, its not all about image). Im only interested in road bikes.
also with getting learning how to ride, do they supply the bike? or do i buy mine first and somehow get it there? am i likely to encounter sexist attitudes cos im a girl? i know its soo dangerous but if i pay them surely they’ll teach me like anyone else? thanks everyone:)
Hiya from a female who loves and rides motorcycles. I’m not mechanically inclined myself, but I stay on top of regular maintenance and I have never had a major problem with any bike I’ve owned in the past 25 years.
It’s easiest to learn on a light weight 250cc bike, but it would be alright to start out on a 600cc too. Most bike ergonomics are designed to suit people between 5′-6′. Measure your inseam, then check out the seat heights online in the specs of the sportbikes that you are interested in. Better yet, visit motorcycle shops and sit on the bikes to find the one that fits you the best. Any of the major name brand motorcycles would be a good choice. Stay away from the Chinese bikes. They are not dependable and parts may be hard to come by.
I’ve heard very few stories of people laying their bikes down and getting pinned underneath them. Don’t worry about that. A 100lb female can pick up a 900lb bike by using her legs as a lever. Most of the guys pick up a downed bike incorrectly by grabbing the handle bars and muscling it up with the full dead weight of the bike working against them.
Beginner rider courses do furnish you a bike, usually a 125cc – 250cc, and a helmet if you don’t have one. You may be required to wear long pants and a long sleeve shirt for the class. Wearing leather shoes, especially something that’s over the ankle would be a good idea, but they may not be required.
Yeah, you may encounter some sexist attitudes still to this day about girls riding. Ignore them. They are idiots. Most people think it’s cool for a female to ride and remember, 1 out of every 5 motorcyclist is female. So even if you don’t see us, you can know your sisters are out there somewhere riding. Good luck to ya girl! And welcome to the family!
