2 Women to receive the Honda-Broderick Cup
Two athletes from Lock Haven University are among the 11 finalists for Honda-Broderick Cup. What College grants Female Athlete of the Year Division II.
The two Lady Eagles vying for the honor are Senior Li Yizhi (Shanghai, China) and sophomore years Kristen Erb (Reading, Pa. / Exeter Township).
Li wrapped up an outstanding career in the history of women's athletics past Lock Haven fall. She is a three-time All-American and the most decorated volleyball player in the history of Lock Haven. It raised the banner of the Coaches Association Volleyball (AVCA) Co-National Player of the Year during the 2006 season.
She played from 2003 to 2006 seasons and his name is dribbled all over record books of the seasons. She has 14 school records. These include breaking the records of the new rules for career digs (1717) and total blocks (704). In 2003, he led the nation in hitting percentage in a freshman (0471), in 2004 as a sophomore (0461) and in 2006 also another time in his last year (0465).
The Official Journal of Women's Volleyball 2006 NCAA Records Book, Li Yizhi is only the player who has a superior race strike at any percentage of the NCAA Division. Amy Albers, the leader is from a university in Division III and played in Washington-St. Louis. She hit the disk 530 and played in 1992-94.
In 0456, in Yizhi overall mark is the second record new versions of Division II. Moreover, the record also leads Division I 423.
At LHU, during her time, she has helped the program through a 124-22 (.849) record over four seasons. It also had two PSAC West championships in the regular season, three PSAC Tournament championships and four Atlantic Region championships. These are the things that made this woman athlete to qualify as one of 11 finalists for Honda-Broderick Cup.
Kristen Erb entered and completed a spectacular second season a year. She led the Lady Eagles to their second consecutive National Championship Tournament and a 52-5 mark. She had her sensational rookie season paved road to Haven to experience their first national championship in softball. She also won the Honda-Broderick Cup in 2006.
With an incredible 39-4 record, which finished the season leading their record to 75-5 in the circle. After this season, she was able to qualify for the All-American first team selection in 2007, was named Daktronics All-American first pitcher Team of the Year.
LHU has lost only nine games in the last two seasons with Erb to the head.
The recipient of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Pitcher of the Year honors, Erb qualified for the 2007 Louisville slugger / National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II for all regions of the first team.
She led the Haven, while earning PSAC and NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Region titles and received MVP honors in both tournaments, a great ability of a female athlete.
Erb has 280.2 innings and recorded 299 strikeouts while allowing only 22 walks of the season. She gave up just 32 runs. Twenty-five of which were obtained during the execution of his ERA to a stellar 0.62 is the top mark in the Division II level in the nation. With 18 shootings, she pitched 31 complete games and spectacular. And with seven homers, she hit .328 with 40 RBIs. This female athlete is really a pride of Lock Haven University and is the second consecutive year that Erb has led the nation in ERA.
For this season, Erb was elected a second time NFCA National Player of the Week. She has also won the honor of PSAC West Pitcher of the Week four times.
In its 31 years, the Honda-Broderick Cup recognizes and commends the efforts of the top collegiate female athlete in each of the 11 sports Honda Sports Awards. In fact, 11 awards winners then receive your eligibility to be recipients of Collegiate Women Athlete of the Year.
The American Honda Motor Co. Inc. will sponsor the awards program and the winner of the Honda-Broderick Cup will be declared on 25 June in New York at Columbia University.
