The Thrill of Motorcycling – 5 Ways to get into riding
Motorcycling is cool. Motorcycling is fast. Motorcycling gives you a peak. No doubt about it. I I do not think anyone can dispute the fact that there is a certain breed of person out there who loves the feeling of being in the fresh air, cruising down the road. Suspect there are more people who likes to go from what we know about. The question is, how do they go?
It's like a lot of things, take one step at a time. More Later, I'll give my 5 top ways to get into riding, but first I will tell you about my own experience of learning to love motorcycles.
I would say I was about 14 when my friend bought a small Honda Z50R. It was very small, but very fun. I walk around the block and travel to the homes of friends there. I came from that speed bike, but I did learn a few things, how to balance and corner a motorcycle.
My motorcycle was following all bikes of land. They were a Suzuki RM80, Honda CR125 and a Suzuki RM125. These were bigger machines and worthwhile investments. They taught me to ride motorcycles highest and how to travel on a dirt road.
There were many other smaller learning experiences that have joined and ride dirt bikes. Those came over time. Some of them included learning where the best dealers are in, how to repair and maintain a motorcycle, how to buy the right parts and were the best places to ride. It was fun and I will not give up those experiences for anything.
I turned 17, I bought my first bike street. It was a Suzuki GR 650 Tempter. This was a big change for me because I had never ridden a street motorcycle before. I have to say it was a great learning bike. There was not enough energy, but not too much to do anything stupid or get into trouble. The bike was smooth and just enough to get my feet wet in the streets.
There were a few years in college where I did not own a motorcycle, but knew that soon they will. After college, I ahead and bought the bike that I have today, a Suzuki GSXR 1100. This is a serious bike, and yes, one could easily get into trouble. Sometimes I tremble unexpected power. I only recommend this type of bike for the more mature and experienced pilot.
I love my current bike, but admitted that contacts with my nerves sometimes. Sometimes I wish I owned a relaxed highway cruising. Now that I'm older, I do not enjoy hunching over the gas tank as I used do so. The style is not so important for me comfort is more and more and more. Also, having a larger seat for a passenger is becoming a necessity. No passenger likes riding so high and having to stop to save his life.
With all the experience I gained in a variety of motorcycles through the years, I feel that I am able to offer some great tips on how to get riding.
1. Visit a dealer. Yes, seems so simple, but a huge hurdle to overcome is deciding if you really feel in your blood. If you're like me, leave the dealership panting like a fool. If you leave yet is determined, motorcycling is not right for you.
2. Talk with people. If you've ever heard a group of riders talk about a trip they have taken or are about to take, chime in. Ask questions and observe the ease with which we will include in the tour. Some of them might even offer to carry a passenger. Community is always friendly and welcoming to new riders.
3. Think about the costs. Motorcycling can be an expensive hobby, if you are just getting longer. You need to be ready for the financial side of things. You can expect the cost of the motorcycle, insurance, registration, maintenance, clothing and fuel costs. It's easy to get caught on every purchase after the market available for your motorcycle, so make sure you can afford the hobby first.
4. Go for a walk. Try to find someone who owns a motorcycle and ask if you can hop back on your next trip. Try to find someone with a motorcycle more great for this, especially if they are over yourself. You'll know if motorcycling is what to do once the wind hits your face.
5. Take a training course. I am one of those types of people who just want to have a bike and go, but my friends have told me how important a training course really is. They thought I knew everything there was to know about motorcycling, but each day I went with new knowledge. It is important to learn to ride properly.
After review and complete the tips above, you should be able to buy your first motorcycle. Look through the motorcycle classifieds or visit your local dealer. Finding the right motorcycle for you and make the purchase. Since you did some riding contacts and are somewhat familiar with motorcycling in general, must be in good shape. Only remember, safety comes first and when it comes to riding, patience is a virtue.
