Importing motorcycles without the certification of the EPA?
We just introduced a 1800cc Go Kart / buggy with VW motor, the engine is certified EPA, but the kart without EPA. "I can import into the U.S.? You can also send me answers to my email account from Yahoo. Many many thank you very much!
The laws are changing a lot lately but I'll give it my best shot. If the vehicle you are trying to import is for off-road or racing only use, there are no license is required EPA. However, if you plan to drive / ride in the street and register it, can be nearly impossible to certify whether it is more recent. The manufacturer is responsible for testing and enforcement, and there is no area in the regs that allow owners / users to certify their own vehicles. The only exception to this is a recent standard, allowing you to build a "custom" motorcycle with a time of an exemption from smog rules. There are very strict this concern, including how often that can be mounted, how many you can have in your life, etc. .. If you are a manufacturer then you have to do your own homework by contacting the EPA yourself, along with the FTC, DOT and other agencies before importing and selling a vehicle in the United States.
